Kia Sorento vs Nissan Rogue

Kia Sorento

Driving is a privilege and a pleasure behind the wheel of a 2021 Kia Sorento or Nissan Rogue when driving through Coatesville, Downingtown, or Gap, Pennsylvania. However, does one model offer more to Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Reading, Pennsylvania; and Newark, Delaware, drivers than the other? Jim Sipala’s Kia of Coatesville team decided to examine both models in the following comparison. Let’s see how they match up.

Kia Sorento vs Nissan Rogue: Safety

Kia SorentoWhile the Kia Sorento’s five available trims and Nissan Rogue’s three available trims may supply you with equivalent safeguards, proof of superior protection is found in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) ratings. The 2021 Kia Sorento scored a 5-Star Safety Rating in the NHTSA’s Front Driver Side Frontal Crash test, while the 2021 Nissan Rogue only scored a 3-Star Safety Rating in the same test. The 2021 Kia Sorento also received a 5-Star Safety Rating in the NHTSA’s Front Passenger Side Frontal Crash test, while the 2021 Nissan Rogue scored a 4-Star Safety Rating for this test.

Kia vs Nissan: Technology

Kia SorentoFor more sustained sound, the Kia Sorento can provide you with 10 available speakers in the Harman/Kardon® Audio System. At the most, the Nissan Rogue offers nine speakers through its Bose® Premium Audio System.

You can view your music, streamed apps, directions, and more on the optional 8-inch touchscreen display in the Sorento, while the Rogue gives you the NissanConnect® 7-inch touchscreen display. Both sets of wheels outfit your command center with smartphone integration using Apple CarPlay® or Android Auto™, but an optional wireless phone charger can refresh your device in the Kia Sorento.

Kia Sorento vs Nissan Rogue: Performance

Kia SorentoIf you want choices regarding the type of engine that exists under the hood, the Kia Sorento presents two different ones:

  • 2.4L I-4 engine that generates 185 horsepower supported by 178 lb-ft of torque.
  • 3.3L V6 engine that generates 290 horsepower supported by 252 lb-ft of torque.

You only get one standard engine in the Nissan—a 2.5L I-4 engine with 170 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque that cannot top either Kia engine.

The two separate engines in the Kia Sorento make towing more personal. If you tow a watercraft that weighs up to 2,000 pounds, you may want the smaller engine. If you need more support for towing a packed trailer, you may want to upgrade to the larger engine that can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. In the Nissan, the maximum towing capacity only reaches 1,102 pounds when properly equipped.
